What a great way to kick off the new year! Scripps News, the streaming TV channel available on every major platform, has renewed the Photowalks series for a second season, with a 30-episode order!
I’ve been sitting on this for a while, eager to announce it, so thrilled to do that today. The new season kicks off Sunday at 3 p.m. ET, with an episode set in San Francisco, and Scripps is sending out a release next week, but I’ve got the advance look for newsletter readers:
Here’s the skinny: new Photowalks episodes will air on Sundays, but in reality, if you turn on Scripps during the weekend, you’re likely to see the show several times on the schedule. This week the San Francisco show is paired with the previously seen Los Angeles episode at 3:30 p.m. ET, and the block is repeated again at 5 p.m. ET.
Why I’m there: San Francisco has been wrongly maligned by some members of the media as a hotbed of crime and drug abuse, which is true, in specific neighborhoods, but not in the great, magical places any tourist would want to visit. The city is still one of the most beautiful in the United States, and always a blast to return to.
On Part 1 of the episode, we start with the cable cars, of course, ride up to Nob Hill, walk over to Chinatown and the Little Italy enclave of North Beach, take a Waymo robot taxi over to the Ferry Building and visit the waterfront of Fisherman’s Wharf. (And that’s just in the first 11 minutes.) We continue onto the Presidio and Golden Gate Bridge, and then end the show with our Photo Tips segment.
Thanks to the great people I got to interview for the episode, including the photographer Christopher Michel, Dianne de Guzman from Eater.com and Pete Sittnick, the owner of the fabulous Water Bar and Epic Steak House by the Embarcadero.
(Thanks again to Ant Pruitt and Debbie Lindemann for helping me shoot in San Francisco.)
Here’s more of what Scripps has to say in the release:
“Each episode features Graham exploring iconic locations, offering viewers a virtual photowalk experience while sharing valuable tips on capturing professional-quality vacation photos using just a smartphone.
Photowalks is one of the only streaming television series produced entirely with mobile technology, including iPhones, Galaxy phones, GoPros and the Insta360 cameras.
The initial six-episode run, which began on October 5, 2024, showcased various destinations, such as the Oregon Coast, Los Angeles, New Mexico, Sicily and Japan. For the second season of the show on Scripps, Photowalks is headed to San Francisco, Savannah, Zion National Park, Portugal, France and British Columbia, among others.
As part of the expanded partnership, Graham will appear frequently on Scripps News’ morning programming presenting features in travel and technology.
“Jeff is a dynamic, talented journalist who offers our viewers a chance to engage and escape,” said Matt Simon, vice president of Scripps News. “From his experience as a columnist for USA TODAY to his “Talking Tech” web series to the Photowalks companion newsletter, Jeff is a seasoned professional who elevates our programming.”
How to watch on Scripps: The channel is available on every major streaming platform. If you haven’t done so already, download the Scripps app on Amazon Fire TV, Roku or Apple. The app comes pre-loaded on smart TVs from Samsung, LG, Sony and Roku, and the network is also available within popular apps like Pluto, Plex, Fubo, DirectTV Stream and Sling. And yes, the schedule is in DVR listings, so feel feel to tape and watch later.
In Part 2 of the San Francisco episode, we’ll be heading to the Mission District, home of those ultra-colorful murals, many painted by the master himself, Ernesto Paul, who we interview on the show, and go inside one of the Painted Ladies on Postcard Row for a sneak peek inside.
Huge thanks to Lori Lincoln from SF Travel for all the assist.
I’ll have Part 1 of the San Francisco Photowalk also posted on YouTube Sunday, so be sure to tune in.
(To answer the poll question from last week, it was $35. That’s how much Ileftmystuff.com charged to mail my GoPro and jacket back from the Hotel Zephyr after I left it behind. A very fair price, if you ask me.)
Next Stops!
2025, as I said, started with a bang and ended with one too, as Photowalks reaped over 1 million views in 2024 on YouTube, our biggest year ever.
And here come the travels: I’ll be in Las Vegas this weekend for the annual CES show, filming for Photowalks, filing reports for Scripps, and appearing on a panel with the great TravelingJules (aka Juliana Broste) and Travis Keyes. I’m off to New York City later in the month for the IMM show, and in April, headed to Chicago where I begin a wonderful new partnership with my favorite hotel chain, Best Western. I’ll be doing Route 66, from Chicago to LA, and filing episodes from each key stop of the Mother Road, in a road trip sponsored by Best Western.
Huge thanks to Brian Donlon, Matt Simon, and Bryan from Best Western for helping to make dreams come true, as well as Mark Thompson for being so generous about helping to spread the word about Photowalks on his daily YouTube show.
Backroads
Many of you know that my late dad Jerry hosted a popular local travel show for KRON San Francisco in the 1980s called Bay Area Backroads. I’ll let you decide how similar we are. Beyond the voice and looks, I’d like to think our shows are different, but similar. Either way, it seems appropriate to kick off the second season of Photowalks on Scripps in the city he loved.
Thanks as always for taking the time to watch, read and listen. Be sure to let me know what you think of the new episode!
Jeff
Congrats, my dear! So glad your dream came true. Wish your pop was here to see it.
Well done
