This is another behind-the-scenes story for our paid subscribers, on what it took to put together a 6 state, 1 territory road trip for the America 250 series.
After tackling the Route 66 road trip in 2025, I started looking for a sequel. And with the American Semiquincentennial set for 2026, America 250 was the obvious choice. It was topical and once I began playing with Google Maps, I realized how easy it was to put a logical trip together with a beginning, middle and end.
I signed up Best Western as a returning sponsor, and set up about setting up the trip, from Boston to DC, with stops in-between Providence and Newport, New Haven, NY, Philly and DC.
Here’s where the planning for productions like these takes precedence over the actual production. What will we see in each of these cities? Who can we interview? What’s the story? It’s got to be more than photo tips through the old cities.
