You may have heard that Barcelona has become one of the poster children for a European city that has become overcome by tourists.
This is all true. In certain parts. Mainly—the heavily touristed areas.
But as I show you in the latest Photowalks episode, Barcelona is still one of the greatest cities in the world, and you can manage the crowds, with a little planning. One way is to shoot over their heads at the Gaudi buildings. I have more photo tips in the episode as well, so I hope you’ll check it out.
What was that Thick Selfie Stick You Were Using?
In the El Segundo video that I showed you yesterday, a number of people asked about that big selfie stick from Ulanzi, the MT-84 that I was rolling around town with.
It’s ridiculously cheap, at $30, and what’s cool is that it’s MagSafe—you don’t need a separate phone/tripod mount to fit the phone atop the stick. If you have an iPhone, the magnets snap it into place. (With an Android, you need a magnetic case for this.)
It extends to 61 inches when it doubles as a tripod, which is good if you’re short—it doesn’t help me much unless I’m sitting at a table. I need at least 72 inches!
The head atop the stick twists and turns, which is incredibly useful. The only down side—it’s very large, and won’t fit into my backpack. Thus, I won’t be bringing it on the Semiquincentennial Photowalks filming tour, the one that kicks off today in Boston and concludes in three weeks in Washington, D.C. These episodes will debut on Scripps News in January.
Keep the questions and comments coming!
Jeff
I caught a last portion of the episode! Question: do you recommend starting the video or photo taking when you’re first entering an amazing artistic place like the featured historical places?
