New Video Alert: Osaka, Japan
Guide to overlooked Osaka food finds, courtesy of Sam Graham.
On the latest edition of Photowalks, we’re back in Osaka, the second largest metro in Japan, the less intense alternative to Tokyo, with lots of electricity and food highlights on seemingly every street.
Osaka is known as the “kitchen” of Japan because of the abundance of food, and no, it’s not just Sushi. Sam Graham, our son, who lives near Osaka and chronicles the food scene for the Culinary Backstreets publication, takes us to some of his favorite haunts there, including the bagel shop where people line up every day to enter, the specialty Apple Pie (with a Japanese twist) bakery and we meet the great-grandmother who has been making takoyaki for decades.
Plus, an interview with fellow Substackers Brent Hartinger and Michael Jensen, the nomads who were living in Osaka at the time we filmed this, for their take on the city. If I learned anything from this episode, it’s this: more interviews on Photowalks. I loved hearing their take on the city!
If you’re not a subscriber yet, be sure to check out their excellent travel blog, Brent and Michael Are Going Places.
(And stay tuned for part 3 of this episode, when I offer several photo tips to capturing Japan with your phone.)
Next week: we’re in Savannah, Georgia and in case you’re wondering, physically I’ll be in Las Vegas, speaking at the NAB convention. If you’re around, come say hi!
