Very informative, Jeff, though it’s a good thing you’ll be close by to explain it all to me in person come September!

Strange, I’m using the public beta of iOS26 right now and love the phone app. Intuitive, easy to navigate and a step up from iOS 18.

To each their own then. I believe many consumers will be frustrated by the retirement of "favorites" and the hidden voicemail, but if it works for you, great!

Thanks, Jeff, for knowledgeable post re iOS26. So helpful. It took many minutes to post this message b/c , one, I’m not computer literate &, two, I couldn’t find my password to Substack. My wife finally was able to navigate Substack. Any way to simplify ability to comment. Thanks in advance. By the way, I bought a 16 pro max. Do you have any articles about your experience with it. John B.

Thank you John! You can always write me at photowalkstv AT gmail.com as well. Here's a video I did on the 16: https://youtu.be/pYMM_btEvYU?si=PYtqzh7NDQ__bCV9

This post of yours reinforces my plan to call Apple and suffer through another front line worker for a while until they kick me up to a higher level tech to guide me in doing a simple little thing with my phone. Namely, I want the phone to NEVER start playing music or activating a YT video or making a call when it’s in my pocket, presuming I pressed the power button before putting it in said pocket. And when I remove it from my pocket I want it to display the home screen. I do NOT want it to open up to a running timer or to open into Health app or in fact to open into ANYTHING. Just the home screen and let me open apps when I want them open. Seems like a trivially simple desire but so far Apple’s iOS has denied me the pleasure.

This would all be great in a perfect world!

You can do all of those things. Talk to a friend who has an iPhone to find out how. As far as music on hold is concerned, that comes from the party you call—not from your phone. Apple has no control over that.

That's all fine, I'm just telling you what Apple says it can do, and how it worked when I tried it.

Jeaff,

I was replying to Crowden.

Yes, I knew that as well. And no, what I want can't be done. Or at least Apple help itself doesn't know how. ALL apps actively turned off, by me, this morning. Music playing by itself anyway. And just now Waze decided to direct me somewhere while my phone was in my pocket. Neither Waze nor Music having been activated since the "delete all active apps" this morning.

Crowden, What you describe should not be possible. I suggest taking your device into an Apple Store and having them look at it. If you do not have access to an Apple Store, I suggest doing a factory reset on your phone.
